There's been a story floating
around the net for years about a beached whale that was blown
up (exploded, not inflated) for lack of a better way to be rid
of it. Many people thought it was an urban
legend.
It wasn't.

Florence, Oregon, USA.
November 12, 1970.
A news crew (led by reporter Paul
Linnman) was on hand for this historic event, and got the
whole thing on tape.

It was a big whale.
It was a smelly whale.
Most importantly, it was a dead whale.
Obviously, a significant amount (half a ton) of
dynamite was required.
